Mika Hakkinen First Test In Formula 1 – Silverstone, 1990

A flashback when a new star was born, Mika Hakkinen the man who is remembered as one of the greatest rivalries of Michael Schumacher.

His first test was back in 1990, driving the Benetton Ford V8 B188 at Silverstone, a 90 laps test where he did a quicker lap than Nanini who was the driver of the team.

Benetton team didn’t offer him a seat, so the first who knocked the Mika’s door to give him a seat, was the Lotus team. He spent two years at Lotus before joining McLaren.

At McLaren, the start wasn’t as he expected, the British team signed Andretti to be a team-mate of Ayrton Senna in 1993, Mika Hakkinen remained a testing driver.

Three races before the end of the season, Andretti left F1, Mika took the seat and surprisingly outqualified Ayrton Senna at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

Mika Hakkinen remained at McLaren for another eight years where he won two championships in a row for McLaren, beating Michael Schumacher in 98 and 99′.
