THROWBACK – McLaren Member On Mika Arrival in 1993: I haven’t seen Senna sweat like that!

A throwback when Mika Hakkinen signed for the British team, partnering with Ayrton Senna back in 1993.

Mika Hakkinen was a young star, nobody had any doubt that he will become F1 champion in the future.

According to reports, a McLaren member said: “I haven’t seen Senna sweat like that since Prost was here.”

In 1993, Hakkinen was signed by the team but he ended up as test driver as McLaren signed Andretti to drive for the team that season.

However, later in the season Andretti decided to quit F1, and he was replaced by Mika Hakkinen at Portuguese Grand Prix.

The last man who outqualified Ayrton Senna in F1 was Gerhard Berger – surprisingly Mika Hakkinen in his debut for McLaren team, outqualified Ayrton Senna by 0.048.

Mika Hakkinen comments: “I went quicker than Ayrton Senna and he didn’t like that.”

“He couldn’t understand how it could happend and he couldn’t accept it,” continued Hakkinen.

“I showed him with my hands and said to him… I have bigger balls. And that made him totally mad. concluded Mika Hakkinen.

It was the last year of Ayrton Senna at McLaren, he decided to join the Williams F1 team as they promised a winning car in 1994, Senna and Mika were team-mates only three races in their career.

Hakkinen remained at McLaren for another eight years at McLaren where he won two championships in a row back in 98 and 99.
